hi i would like to know how much you charge for the consultation process? some clinics do it for free and some charge a small deposit returned after the consultation. i would like to know this as i would have to travel if i chose focus clinics as i live in Leicester city. it would be inconvenient to travel again and again if they is not much difference price wise.

Comment by Zoe Dolding on 5 June 2008:
Hi David,
I’m interested to know how much treatment for my eyes would cost. My current prescribtion is:Right = 0.00 sphere, -1.50 cyl, 90.0 axis, left = +0.25 sph, -1.75 cyl, 70.0 axis, with reading addition of +1.50. I know most of this is for astigmatism but i also have cornea abnormalities. i have already had a consultantion for laser surgery so that is how I know this. What effect would this have on my treatment through your clininc.
Many thanks Zoe
Comment by Dave Allamby on 6 June 2008:
Hi Zoe
I would need to see you to investigate the abnormalities you mention.
But for pricing, I will assume the eyes are healthy to give you an idea.
Based on your numbers, our M-LASIK would be only £295 for the right eye and £595 for the left, INCLUDING wavefront treatment.
(normally around £400 extra per eye at some other centres)
This is to correct your distance vision, e.g driving, TV, films etc.
If you need distance and reading vision corrected, this is more complex and more expensive, with M-LASIK being £1,695 per eye (same for both eyes).
You can also upgrade all treatments to our fantastic blade-free Z-LASIK. We have the only Ziemer laser in the UK at present to offer Z-LASIK - the results are astonishingly good and appear practically pain free. Vision is very good in about 1 hour only.
Hope this helps
David

Hi David,
I would like to know the cost for both M-Lasik and Z-Lasik based on the following prescription:
R SPH: -1.75 CYL:-0.75 AXIS: 95.0
L SPH: -1.75 CYL:-0.25 AXIS: 65.0

Comment by Dave Allamby on 27 June 2008:
Hi James
M-LASIK (wavefront) would be £495 per eye and wavefront Z-LASIK would be £820 per eye based on those numbers. This will save you approx between £1000-2900 compared to other centres.
Consult is free if you quote LT01 and includes all aftercare.
Regards, Dave

To get the FDA data takes some work and has to be extracted from all the individual reports. To make it accessible we have summarised the data in a table on the site.
The URL for those reports is here:
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/devicesatfda/index.cfm?search_term=LZS%20or%20LASIK
I have done around 7000 procedures now.
Hope this helps!

Comment by Yamit on 10 July 2008:
Hi Dave,
Just re-ordered yet another batch of contact lenses which has prompted me to investigate surgical correction. Planning on booking a meeting with Focus soon, but could you let me know if I am suitable for surgical correction, and what the approximate cost for blade free wavefront Lasik would be for me. My most recent prescription is:
R - 7.25 / 2.25 / 10
L - 7.25 / 175 / 180
Many thanks,
Yamit
Comment by Ciara Smith on 29 July 2008:
Dear Dave,
Could you give me an indication of the cost for dual laser blade-free treatment with wavefront? I am 21, and was just about to make an appointment with Optimax before I found you on the Web.
My prescription is as follows :
SPH / CYL / AXIS
Right: -1.00 / +0.75 / 10
Left: -1.00 / +1.00 / 165
Also can you give me an indication as to how long the recovery time is before I could fly? (Its my job)
Many thanks
Comment by Dave Allamby on 30 July 2008:
Hi Ciara
Thanks for your mail. The price would be £595 per eye for wavefront blade free LASIK based on those numbers. We can confirm at your consult. You should save around £2,000 total compared to Optimax for the same treatment.
This price is only until Sept 08 and will then be going up.
Hope this helps. If you want to book a consult, Paula Cole can help you. cced here too.
You can fly again after 48 hours.
Best regards
David
Comment by Mark Breeze on 30 July 2008:
Hi Dave,
Please could you give me a quote for the following prescription, for bladeless wavefront LASIK:
L: SPH -3.25, CYL -0.25, AXIS 20
R: SPH -3.00, CYL -1.00, AXIS 175
Also, you mentioned prices were going up in September. Is this the start or end of September, and any indication of how much prices will be after the rise?
Thanks a lot.
Comment by Dave Allamby on 30 July 2008:
Hi Mark
On those numbers, blade free wavefront LASIK is £1020 per eye. We were planning to increase at the start of Sept, but because of the high demand we may run through Sept to accommodate everyone. We are just running out of treatment spaces.
We haven’t finalised the increase but likely will add around £400 on the total price.
Thanks, Dave
Comment by Peter on 1 August 2008:
Hi
I was reading that the UK police force only allow LASEK not LASIK.
(possibly related to risks of blows to the face/eyes).
Does this imply that the LASEK is a better long term solution?
Thanks
Peter
Comment by Dave Allamby on 1 August 2008:
Hi Peter
No this is not true. The UK police force accept LASIK, LASEK, PRK, ICRS and cataract surgery. They do not accept Radial Keratotomy (RK, microsurgery), AK or corneal grafts.
I will put up a post with the relevant except clip from the police guidelines on this topic.
Also, there is increasing evidence that thin flap LASIK with the newer femtosecond lasers, rather than a blade cut flap, leave the eye significantly stronger with better healing of the flap. I will post soon on this topic also.
Regards, Dave
Comment by Hayley on 17 August 2008:
Hi Dave,
After wearing continuous wear contacts for over 2 years my eyes have started to reject the lenses and I really can’t bear the thought of having to go back to wearing glasses full time again. Please could you give me an estimate for blade free treatment? My right eye is SPH-2.00 CYL-0.50 AXIS 100.00 my left eye is SPH-3.25 CYL-0.50 AXIS 100.00. I was also told at my last eye test (2 weeks ago) that I have a small cataract in my right eye. Apparently the optician saw it 2 years previously but never mentioned it to me at the time, it currently does not affect my vision. Would this make me unsuitable for laser surgery? I’m only 33
Regards,
Hayley
Comment by Dave Allamby on 18 August 2008:
Hi Hayley
The cataract should be no problem and is likely something you were born with. LASIK should still be fine for you. We will check all at your consultation however.
Prices for the next month (blade free wavefront LASIK are):
Right eye £920 and Left eye £1020. Prices will be going up mid Sept but if you can get in for consult before Sept 15th, we can honour the old price.
thanks, Dave
Comment by Seb Tudor on 21 August 2008:
Hi David
Having been very impressed by your webiste and the information pack sent by email, please can you confirm the cost for blade free wavefront LASIK (if ive done my homework correctly!)
My Prescription is as follows:-
Right eye -5.50 -0.50 80 (although my contact lenses are -5.25)
Left eye -4.50 -0.50 120 (although my contact lenses are -4.25)
After the inital consultation, how long is it for an appointment?
Regards and thanks
Seb
Comment by Dave Allamby on 22 August 2008:
Hi Seb
thanks for the compliments. Glad to hear we are doing things right!
The prices for blade free wavefront LASIK right now are £1120 for the left eye and £1220 for the right (worse) eye.
However pls note that prices are going up soon (we are much cheaper than our competitors during our 2008 promotion so need to make more realistic) - you would need to book in and get treated before end Sept and we can keep to quoted above.
We should be able to get you treated within 2-3 weeks on consult - we are heavily booked - but will add extra surgery days to cope with the high numbers of patients.
Hope this helps Seb
Regards
Dave
