for a -8D or -5D prescription, I would offer Z-LASIK as the treatment of choice. We appear to have the UK’s best vision results with this approach. If you want to box, do PRK with MMC instead. No need for ICLs unless you have anatomical reasons, and you are an older patient.

not quite sure what you are asking, but I can comment on your prescription, treatments and price. I would recommend wavefront femtosecond dual laser LASIK (no blade) as the treatment of choice for most people. your prescription looks fine. as for the special offer price, as long as you dont compromise on quality, that is fine. I dont see any mention of who your surgeon will be, which is a vital part of the equation

Yes, femtosecond thin flaps appear to heal well, and are very hard if not impossible to lift after 12 months or so.

I am actually not to bothered about the boxing so would you recommend ICL treatment instead or would that come with a downside.

I have just had a consultation for Laser surgery. They say my prescription would be:

Right eye sph: -1.50 Cyl -1.00
Left eye sph: -1.25 Cyl -2.75

They have recommended Lasik wavefront treatment.

Original price quoted 3500. Followed by a “special offer” of £2395.

Any thoughts?

Hi Dave,

Just to follow up on the question i posted about the flap. I have been doing some research and people have stated that even after 5 years the flap never healed and could be lifted by the surgeon. I accept that these flaps were made by blade and technology has moved on. My question is does the flap made by the laser at your clinic ever heal if so how long does it take.

You could have the consultation the day before surgery if you wished, but not same day. The cost for blade free wavefront LASIK would be a total of approx £1,990 for both eyes.

Thank you for choosing Focus. For boxing and karate, if you choose blade free femtosecond LASIK, there is no reason when you should not be able to continue with those sports but you may wish to not spar for 6 months post LASIK. These flaps do fully heal down but can take up to 12 months – but should be pretty strong by 6 months. No reason though why you can’t be training without contact after 1 week, such as katas, etc.
Please bring your sunglasses on the day of surgery. We can provide protective glasses but most patients prefer their own sunglasses.

Hi Dave,

I am considering having surgery with you and had a couple of questions.

Firstly, I understand that there is a consultation before surgery day. I was wondering what the minimum suitable separation was between consultation and surgery.

Also I was wondering what the approximate cost would be.
My glasses prescription is:
right sph -2.50 cyl -0.25 axis 180
left sph -1.50 cly -0.50 axis 5
My contact lenses however are -1.75 -2.75 for reasons I am not aware of.

Hi Dave,

After doing my research i have decided to go ahead with the LASIK at Focus. I just have two questions.

If i were to go ahead with the LASIK, will that mean that i will never be able to do contact sports like Boxing and Karate in the future?

Second question is will i need to bring and eye protection gear on the day of treatment or do you provide it?

Thanks for your message. I will really need to know your exact prescription please and can advise you better then. You can usually be seen within 2 weeks or so, and the surgery would be on a Tuesday, with the consultation on the Monday. Price will depend on your prescription actually so please write back with that.

Hi!
I am soon 48 yrs old, and I want to correct my vision, and I am wondering how much it costs? I got glasses for blended vision, but I am not ‘using’ them so much… Mostly I need correction for short-sightedness. It is around -1,50 to -2,50… (not sure)
And how far ahead do I have to book a session? I live in Norway, but love visiting London. I am having a long weekend in mid July, is it to late to book a surgery on a special day (not Sunday), and how much does my surgery cost, incl everything???

Thank you for your question on LASIK prices.
Ultralase charge £1945 per eye for their equivalant procedure to ours. We charge £1645 per eye for your son’s prescription, so saving £800. You get a NHS Consultant corneal specialist (Charing Cross) with ourselves.

My son 23yrs old has had a consultation at Ultralase and was told he needed ultra lasik plus (intralase, which I think is blade free).
His prescription is -8 stig 0.25 L and -8 R,
Does this sound like the correct procedure and how much should it cost.
